That’s why people from across the globe are keen on learning the Quran, interpreting every word of it and even teaching the Quran to their kids.

The great attention to the Holy Book makes us wonder What really is the Quran? Why is every Muslim striving to learn the Quran? and How to Learn The Quran?

What is The Quran (Koran)?

Firstly, let’s take a glance at what the Quran is to help brothers and sisters who are new to Islam or non-muslims to get to know the Quran.

The “Quran” (Koran) Word

The Quran (Koran) word comes from its original Arabic word (القُرآن‎) which is pronounced in English (Al-Kor-AHN). Its letterly meaning in Arabic is “Recitation”. So, we can figure out that the original language of the Quran is Arabic.

The Quran’s Revealing

The Quran was orally revealed by Allah (SWT) to the last prophet, Muhammad (PBUH), through the archangel Gabriel (Jibril) incrementally over a period of some 23 years. It was revealed in the Arabic language only. Quran in any other language is only a translation of the meaning of the Quran.

The Quran Holy Book

The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Chapters and each Chapter is subdivided into individual verses. The chapters are called (in Arabic: سورة) or (in English for singular: sūrah, for plural: suwar) while the verses are called (in Arabic: آية) (in English for singular: āyah, for plural: āyāt).

The Quran is the book of Allah, the miracle of Islam, and the Scripture of the Muslims. It deals with all the subjects which concern human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, transactions, law, etc., but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures. At the same time, it provides guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper human conduct, and an equitable economic system.

The text of the Holy Quran has remained unchanged over the past 1500 years. The millions of copies of the Quran circulating in the world today are all identical down to a single letter. And this is not strange. Because Allah says in the Holy Quran that He Himself will guard this book:

Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians

The Holy Quran [15:9]

The most significant thing about the Quran is that that the more you know about it and read it, the more you get lost in its endless sea of knowledge. Those are not beautiful or rhythmic words about the Quran. But it’s a true experience by Lesley Hazleton, A non-muslim who reads the Koran.

Why Every Muslim Should Learn The Quran?

Every Muslim should learn The Quran because it contains all the needful historical examples, jurisprudential information, ethical advice, and values to succeed in this life and Ākhirahr (hereafter).

It provides us with spiritual insight and advice on how to live our lives due to the values it stresses, such as patience, generosity, and caring for others.

The Holy Quran is the sacred book of Islam. Verses (Ayat) of the Quran are the words of Allah (SWT) that were revealed to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a guide for all of humanity, regardless of creed, identity, cultural background, age, or gender. As Allah (SWT) says:

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah

The Holy Quran [2:2]

The significance of the Quran is that there has never been and will never be something like it; it’s the miracle of Islam. Actually, Allah (SWT) has challenged mankind and the jinn to come up with something like the Quran, even one chapter (surah) or one verse (Ayah). But they never could do so and they will never do. Allah (SWT) says:

If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.

The Holy Quran [17:88]

Moreover, learning the Quran and/or teaching it, develops a close affinity to Allah (SWT), opens the doors of spiritual satisfaction, purifies the soul, and makes you a better person. That’s why Islam gives great importance to the learning of the Quran.
